Memories of Home
What does home mean to you?
Memories of Home is a group we ran in collaboration with local community organisation, Family Voice Sheffield between 2019 and 2023. Our weekly sessions supported local women from different backgrounds to share their stories of home.
Through drama, creative writing, movement and storytelling, strong bonds formed between group members, helping them to feel more connected and less isolated.
"These classes are very important for me. I do feel a bit emotional. The things we are doing here, I don’t have anywhere else to share them, to speak about these things. And I can’t forget about them. It is so special to talk about my past."
In July 2021 the Memories of Home group produced and hosted an interactive exhibition as part of Sheffield’s Migration Matters festival.
We shared stories, poems, songs (and food!) that the group had created together and invited visitors to contribute their own memories of home.
